BJ’s is adding new ways to receive same-day online delivery.

BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. is adding a new partner to its online delivery portfolio.

The discount club retailer is teaming up with third-party delivery platform DoorDash to offer on-demand grocery delivery from 226 BJ’s locations across 17 states. BJ’s is the first wholesale club chain available on the DoorDash marketplace.

The retailer’s products can be purchased directly on the DoorDash app by users in the Eastern U.S., offering members and non-members access to an on-demand assortment of thousands of its items on-demand. BJ’s members can also link their wholesale club card to receive lower, member-only pricing.

In addition to BJ's now being available for orders on DoorDash's grocery marketplace, the partnership will also enable same-day online delivery from BJs via DoorDash Drive, DoorDash’s white-label direct fulfillment platform.

All 226 BJ’s locations will be available on DashPass, DoorDash’s membership program that offers members unlimited $0 delivery fees on eligible DashPass orders. DashPass members can obtain these benefits on eligible grocery orders with a subtotal of $25 or more from BJ’s.

BJ’s has an existing same-day grocery delivery partnership with Instacart. And in 2019, the retailer began offering same-day delivery of beer, wine and spirits from stores in select ZIP codes in six states.

2019 also saw BJ’s quietly introduce a program called BJ’s Stocked, which delivers essential products in two days. Eligible items include canned and packaged food, candy and cookies, health and beauty, cleaning, and baby and kids. Orders must be placed by 1 p.m. for two-day delivery.

More recently, BJ’s strengthened its supply chain operations by acquiring a long-time partner. The retailer has entered into an agreement to acquire the assets and operations of four refrigerated distribution centers and the related private transportation fleet from Burris Logistics. The transaction, expected to close in the second quarter of 2022, will allow BJ’s to bring its end-to-end perishable supply chain in-house.

"BJ’s is proud to bring the convenience and value our members know and love to even more shoppers through the DoorDash marketplace,” said Monica Schwartz, executive VP and chief digital officer, BJ’s Wholesale Club. “We are excited to expand easy shopping solutions for our members, while also bringing BJ’s wide assortment and exclusive products to new potential members.”

“We see the trend towards convenience only going in one direction, with grocery delivery being no exception,” said Shanna Prevé, VP, business development at DoorDash. "We are thrilled to welcome BJ’s to the DoorDash platform as our first wholesale club on the marketplace, continuing our mission to provide consumers with the convenience and savings they crave, while empowering merchants to reach customers wherever they are.”

Headquartered in Westborough, Mass., BJ's Wholesale Club currently operates 226 clubs and 158 BJ's Gas locations in 17 states on the East Coast. Founded in 2013, DoorDash is a technology company that provides same-day delivery from local and national businesses in more than 7,000 cities across the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan and Germany.
