BJ’s Wholesale Club is the latest retailer to offer two-day shipping.
BJ’s is quietly introducing a new program called BJ’s Stocked, which delivers essential products in two days. So far, the retailer has only announced BJ’s Stocked via social media and a banner ad on its
homepage.
Eligible items include canned and packaged food, candy and cookies, health and beauty, cleaning, and baby and kids. Orders must be placed by 1 p.m. for two-day delivery.
According to a response to a customer inquiry on the official BJ’s Facebook page, there is a shipping charge for BJ’s Stocked, which is automatically calculated when customers place an order. It is unclear whether BJ’s Stocked delivery costs more than the retailer’s regular online delivery fees.
Typically, to shop at BJ’s, consumers must pay an annual membership fee which costs $110 for 2% cash back on purchases, $55 without cash back, or $10 for online access only. The retailer also often runs special promotions that can include shorter membership periods.
In partnership with Instacart, BJ’s also offers same-day delivery or pickup of online grocery orders, but this is the retailer’s first foray into fast shipping that also includes non-grocery items.
BJ’s is launching BJ’s Stocked as two of its main competitors are starting to shift from two-day to one-day delivery. Amazon, which initially
announced plans to cut its standard Prime shipping time from two days to one day during its April 25 earnings call, is making
free one-day delivery available to Prime members with no minimum purchase amount on more than 10 million products.
In addition,
Walmart offers free next-day delivery for purchases of $35 or more across a range of general merchandise from Walmart.com. Unlike Amazon and BJ’s fast delivery options, Walmart’s one-day online delivery option does not require a membership fee.
Headquartered in Westborough, Massachusetts, BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings, currently operates 215 clubs and 136 BJ’s Gas locations in 16 states.
