Big surge in janitorial work orders by retailers, restaurants in July

With safety top of mind for consumers amid the pandemic, retailers are doubling down on their cleaning efforts.

According to data from facilities management platform ServiceChannel, janitorial work orders from retailers (including supermarkets) and restaurants across all states increased by 95% in July from the year-ago period. One state — Alaska — saw their cleaning work orders soar 398% in July over last year. 

Here is a break-down of work orders for July 2020 (compared to July 2019) in some key states by ServiceChannel.

  • Alabama - increased cleaning work orders 159%
  • Maryland - increased cleaning work orders 89%
  • New York - increased cleaning work orders 129% 
  • California -  increased cleaning work orders 32%
  • Arizona -  increased cleaning work orders 51% 
  • Pennsylvania - increased cleaning work orders 153% 
  • Oklahoma - increased cleaning work orders 122% 
  • New Jersey - increased cleaning work orders 150% 
  • Massachusetts - increased cleaning work orders 292% 
  • Florida - increased cleaning work orders 65% 
  • Texas - increased cleaning work orders 64% 
  • Virginia- increased cleaning work orders 143%  
  • Washington - increased cleaning work orders 83%  
  • Tennessee - increased cleaning work orders 184%  
  • North Carolina -  increased cleaning work orders 177%  
  • Missouri - increased cleaning work orders 182%  
  • Kentucky -  increased cleaning work orders 303%  
  • Alaska - increased cleaning work orders 398%
