Big Lots opens full assortment to same-day delivery

Big Lots is expanding its same-day delivery program.

The nation’s largest closeout retailer, which partnered with Instacart for on-demand delivery of groceries, essentials and some home goods and décor items in June, is opening the store to same-day delivery orders.

Big Lots is collaborating with on-demand logistics provider Pickup to allow customers to order from the assortment available at their local Big Lots store via biglots.com within the same day.

Available products include small and large items, from decorative accessories and snacks to furniture and mattresses. Big Lots will roll this service to 1,100 of its 1,400 stores across 47 states in the U.S. in the next month. The company is expanding on-demand delivery as it has seen exponential e-commerce growth during the first half of 2020, including a 5x increase in demand, 3x increase in conversion rate and 70% rise in website traffic.

“The Big Lots team is focused on delivering exceptional service and continued growth across our channels, and that includes meeting customers’ increasing desire for immediate, integrated online shopping experiences,” said Erica Fortune, Big Lots VP of e-commerce. “Our partnership with Pickup is the latest in a series of investments aimed at creating a true omnichannel platform, and this work is now a key part of our success.”

Later this year, the company will implement ship-from-store capabilities across selected stores, allowing for faster order fulfillment. Big Lots is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.
