Amazon unveils generative AI-powered chatbox for businesses

Amazon Web Services

Amazon has debuted an artificial intelligence “expert assistant” (chatbox) for employees to use at work.

The company unveiled the new generative AI tool, dubbed “Amazon Q,” at the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Reinvent conference in Las Vegas. Available as part of AWS’ cloud platform, it is intended specifically for a work environment and can be tailored to a customer’s business.  It aims to provide information and advice that can help employees who use AWS at work streamline tasks and accelerate decision making and problem solving.

“Customers can get fast, relevant answers to pressing questions, generate content and take
actions — all informed by the customer’s information repositories, code, and enterprise systems,” the company stated.

Among other features, the new tool can automatically make changes to source code so developers have less work to do. Initially, Amazon can help users understand the capabilities of AWS and trouble-shoot issues.

preview version of Q is available now, and several of its features are available for free. Once the preview period ends, a tier for business users will cost $20 per person per month, reported CNBC. A version with additional features for developers and IT workers will cost $25 per person per month.

“Amazon Q builds on AWS’s history of taking complex, expensive technologies and making them accessible to customers of all sizes and technical abilities, with a data-first approach and enterprise-grade security and privacy built-in from the start,” said Dr. Swami Sivasubramanian, VP of data and artificial intelligence. “By bringing generative AI to where our customers work — whether they are building on AWS, working with internal data and systems, or using a range of data and business applications — Amazon Q is a powerful addition to the application layer of our generative AI stack that opens up new possibilities for every organization.”

Initially, Q can help people understand the capabilities of AWS and trouble-shoot issues.
