Amazon is committing major funding to German projects.

Amazon plans to make total investments of more than $18 billion in Germany in 2027, spanning jobs, technology, and infrastructure.

Since 2010, Amazon says it has invested more than $110 billion in Germany and has created more than 40,000 permanent jobs in the country. With its planned 2027 German investments, the online giant intends to increase its presence in the following areas:

Robotics research labs

Amazon is currently opening a second research lab for robotics and artificial intelligence in Berlin, doubling its research presence in the capital. The labs are intended to further develop intelligent collaboration between people and technology so that customers receive their orders faster and more reliably and employees are supported in the best possible way.

The new lab creates specialized roles, including applied scientists, robotics hardware engineers, robotics software engineers, and robotics systems engineers.

Amazon Web Services

As part of its new Germany investment, the company plans to invest more than $5 billion in 2027 to expand its Amazon Web Services Europe (Frankfurt) Region to help the company continue to meet German customer demand for advanced cloud and AI services. More than 3,000 permanent Amazon employees in Germany, are AWS employees.

The company has also invested double-digit billions of euros in its cloud infrastructure since launching the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) Region in October 2014 and the AWS European Sovereign Cloud in Germany, which has been generally available since January 2026.

Fulfillment centers

Amazon is expanding its logistics footprint in Germany, investing in technologies across its fulfillment locations including robotics. Modernization of existing fulfillment centers in Bad Hersfeld, Dortmund, and Werne, Germany is expected to be completed in 2027, while modernization work in Koblenz, Pforzheim, and Rheinberg will continue through 2028.

In 2026, Amazon is opening a fulfillment center in Zweibrücken—which is already filling jobs—and a new fulfillment center is being built in Könnern. Amazon says these already-announced logistics projects account for more than 3,000 new jobs in Germany.

Carbon-free energy

Amazon has enabled carbon-free energy projects across Germany with a combined capacity of more than 1.3 GW, including wind farm projects in the North and Baltic seas. Once fully operational, these projects are expected to generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 1.8 million German households annually.

Roughly 95% of the time, Amazon's data centers in Germany use free air cooling with no water involved. When evaporative cooling is needed on the warmest days, all planned data centers in Germany will use harvested rainwater to minimize demands on community water resources and reduce potential stormwater runoff.

"Germany is a hub of innovation and one of the most attractive investment opportunities in Europe,” said David Zapolsky, Amazon chief global affairs and legal officer. “That is why we have invested more than $110 billion here since 2010, and why we plan to invest an additional $18 billion in 2027. We want German businesses, communities, and creators to have the infrastructure and tools they need to compete and grow.”
