Amazon expands used car inventory with Hertz partnership

Amazon teams with Hertz Car Sales
Amazon shoppers can buy used cars from Hertz.

Amazon is wasting no time in building on its new used car business.

The online giant, which earlier this month expanded its Amazon Autos platform to include used and certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles, is now teaming up with Hertz Car Sales

The collaboration combines Hertz Car Sales’ nationwide inventory with Amazon’s shopping and checkout experience, enabling shoppers to browse, finance and purchase from a selection of thousands of pre-owned vehicles.

As Amazon Autos’ first fleet dealer, Hertz Car Sales is expanding the available inventory on Amazon Autos to offer a wider selection of vehicles from brands like Ford, Toyota, Chevrolet and Nissan.

“We’re excited for Hertz Car Sales to join the hundreds of franchised dealers in our store, bringing thousands of additional vehicles for customers to choose from,” said Fan Jin, global head of Amazon Autos. “This collaboration allows us to offer an expanded selection of well-maintained vehicles from more dealerships across the country, while maintaining the simplicity that customers expect from Amazon.”

Customers can now browse Hertz Car Sales listings on Amazon Autos, complete their purchase online, and pick up their vehicle at Hertz Car Sales locations. To browse Hertz’s available inventory on Amazon Autos, customers can visit Amazon.com/autos or search “Hertz vehicles” on Amazon Autos. Available vehicles within 75 miles of the customer will be shown.

This program will initially begin in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle, with plans to expand to Hertz Car Sales’ 45 locations nationwide. Hertz Certified vehicles undergo a 115-point inspection and are backed by a 12-month/12,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, 24-hour roadside assistance, and a  seven-day/250-mile buy-back guarantee.

The partnership also offers flexible financing options from lenders, vehicle history and condition reports, and e-signature and pickup scheduling.

“Our goal is to reimagine the car-buying experience and meet customers where they are – whether online or in person – with convenience, confidence and scale,” said Jeff Adams, executive VP of Hertz Car Sales. “Amazon Autos is the ideal partner to help us deliver on this as customers can shop our expansive inventory of high-quality used cars on the same trusted marketplace where millions shop every day.”

Amazon enters the used car business

As part of Amazon’s broader used car offering, dealers can list their used vehicle inventory on Amazon. The program started with pre-owned vehicles from Hyundai dealers, with additional dealerships to be added.

The used and CPO vehicle listings appear alongside new vehicles across the Amazon Autos storefront, which launched in December 2024 through a partnership with Hyundai. Customers have the option to filter results to show new or used vehicles.

The addition of used and CPO vehicles builds upon Amazon Autos' new vehicle sales offering. Currently, dealers in more than 130 U.S. cities participate in the program.
