Amazon to expand next-gen fulfillment network in Indiana
Amazon is building a new facility in Indiana that will utilize advanced technology to process packages daily.
In an email to Chain Store Age, an Amazon spokesperson said it plans to construct a new fulfillment center in Greenfield, Ind. The new facility will support Amazon's customer fulfillment network by delivering for increased customer demand and offer both full- and part-time roles to support these operations.
Amazon’s next-gen fulfillment center model features automated technology solutions in all key production areas at the site, with human employees working alongside its robotic systems seamlessly in a way that wasn’t previously possible.

Within these sites, the company says it reduced fulfillment processing times by up to 25%, enhanced shipping accuracy, and increased the number of items available for same-day and next-day delivery. During peak delivery seasons, Amazon says it is aiming to drive a 25% improvement in its cost to serve at its next-generation facilities.
"We're proud to grow our presence in Hancock County as we continue expanding our Indiana fulfillment network," said Kyle DeGiulio, Amazon regional senior economic development manager. "The Hoosier State has been instrumental in our growth, where we've created tens of thousands of jobs and invested more than $25.5 billion since 2010. This latest expansion reinforces our long-term commitment to the region."
This facility adds to Amazon's growing presence in Indiana, which includes 37 main investments across the state consisting of 13 fulfillment and sortation centers, 11 delivery stations, five solar projects, and various other facilities.
Amazon expects that the new fulfillment center will help meet increasing customer demand throughout Indianapolis and surrounding communities. The company is currently finalizing a timeline for when it will begin construction of the facility and when it is expected to be fully operational.
Since 2010, Amazon says it has invested more than $25.5 billion in Indiana, creating over 26,000 full- and part-time jobs and contributing an additional $25 billion to the state's economy. These investments have helped create more than 34,900 indirect jobs across construction, logistics, and professional services, according to Amazon.
In addition, more than 8,000 independent authors and small and medium businesses in Indiana are selling through Amazon, which the company says creates thousands of additional jobs across the state.
