Amazon debuts same-day perishable grocery delivery in U.K.
Amazon is globally expanding an offering that lets customers include fresh items in their same-day Amazon delivery orders.
The online giant is letting customers in parts of London order fresh, perishable groceries – such as fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, poultry, seafood, dairy, bread, eggs and frozen foods - with their same-day delivery orders, alongside other products that have already been same-day-delivery-eligible.
Amazon is internationally building on its August 2025 rollout of same-day delivery of fresh perishable groceries to more than 1,000 cities and towns, which has more than doubled since and continues to grow.

According to the retailer, the service is designed around how customers already shop on Amazon, with those in eligible postcodes able to find perishable groceries in regular search results and product listings as well as through the grocery and same-day tabs at the top of the Amazon homepage or app.
All perishable items are stored, picked, and packed in temperature-controlled environments, with quality checks at multiple points before items leave for delivery. Temperature-sensitive products are delivered in insulated, recyclable packaging designed to maintain freshness where relevant.
U.K. Prime members already receive free same-day delivery on orders over approximately $27 across millions of items on Amazon and fresh groceries are now included with no additional delivery fees. For customers without a Prime membership, the service is available for a delivery fee of roughly $8 regardless of basket size.
The launch of same-day perishable delivery is part of a broader Amazon commitment to invest approximately $54 billion in the U.K. by the end of 2027. As part of this commitment, Amazon also recently started construction on its first delivery station to seek new zero carbon certification in the U.K. and Europe, a $54 million facility in Stockton-on-Tees in northeast England.
Amazon also recently started performing drone deliveries from its fulfillment center in the U.K. city of Darlington.
Amazon analysis indicates that the everyday essentials category, which includes groceries and household items, now represents around one in three items ordered on its U.K. e-commerce site and is growing nearly twice as fast as other areas of the business.
"We’re focused on making grocery shopping easier and faster for customers, with low prices on millions of items," said John Boumphrey, U.K. country manager of Amazon. "Customers can now add fresh groceries to their regular Amazon orders in a single basket and have everything delivered the same day. Whether it’s fresh ingredients with a new cookbook, or milk and tea bags with a new kettle, you can place an order in the morning and have it delivered by the time you get home."
Since 2010, Amazon has made direct investments in its U.K. operations of more than $107 billion, creating what the company says are tens of thousands of U.K. jobs in logistics, technology, and corporate roles.
