Walmart continues to dive deeper into health care.
The retail giant confirmed to CNBC that it will start selling health insurance plans. The news was previously reported by Med City News and Talk Business & Politics.
Walmart has posted job openings on its career website for “Walmart Insurance Services LLC.” The openings are for licensed Medicare insurance agents in the Dallas area, starting the first week of August.
“Walmart Insurance Service, LLC s is hiring in the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area,” a blog on the site reads. “Yes, you read that right, Walmart now has an insurance agency.”
Walmart currently provides insurance information at Walmart Health, its new freestanding health care concept. It has an education program, called Healthcare Begins Here, designed to help people find an insurance policy.
“We’re always looking for ways to help our customers save money and live better, and insurance services is one another way we do that,” Walmart spokesman Randy Hargrove told CNBC. “We’re expanding our current insurance services to now include the sale of insurance policies to our customers…. We need passionate health insurance professionals to help us build this new business from the ground up and achieve our mission.”
