For the second time in its history, Walmart’s $59 billion warehouse club division has a female CEO.

The company named Kathryn McLay as president and CEO of Sam's Club, effective Nov. 15. She succeeds John Furner, who was named chief executive of Walmart U.S after the departure of Greg Foran to become CEO of Air New Zealand Ltd. (McLay is the second female executive to lead Sam’s Club after Rosalind Brewer, who held the role prior to Furner.)

McLay joined Walmart in 2015 as the VP of U.S. finance and strategy. She was promoted to senior VP of supply chain. In 2018, she was named executive VP of Neighborhood Markets - Walmart U.S., where she led the growth and overall operations of nearly 700 Neighborhood Markets across the U.S.
