Walmart lowers prices on thousands of items — and the president takes notice
Walmart is lowering prices across thousands of summer favorites.
The country's largest grocer has reduced prices across grocery, household essentials, outdoor living, toys and apparel. The featured price reductions, or “Rollbacks,” include such items as a 2.25 lb. bag of fresh red cherries ($5.63, was $11.18), 24-packs of Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar ($9.97, was $14.97) and 1 lb. 73% ground beef roll ($5.94, was $6.74).
"This summer, we're making even more investments in price, with thousands of Rollbacks across the products customers are shopping for most including beef, fresh produce and beverages, grills, pools, toys and summer fashion apparel,” said Julie Barber, executive VP and chief merchant, Walmart U.S. "Whether they're stocking up for a backyard barbecue, heading out on vacation or simply shopping for the week ahead, we're helping everyone save more for every occasion."
Walmart’s price cuts were praised by President Donald Trump in a post on Truth Social on July 6. He also took credit for the move. (Walmart’s press release announcing the price reductions did not include any mention of the Trump administration.)
“I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday,” he wrote.
Trump highlighted Walmart’s price cut on ground beef in his post, calling it “a huge deal for the many millions of Americans who, smartly, shop at Walmart, which is a truly patriotic Company who loves the U.S.A.”
“Walmart is stepping up in a big and bold way, and other Retailers should follow the lead of these absolute Patriots,” Trump wrote in the post.
Sam’s Club
In addition, Sam’s Club is lowering prices on more than 250 items across road trip snacks, grilling essentials and summer entertaining favorites. The reductions include Member's Mark (Sam’s private brand) Beef Hot Dogs ($10.86, was $12.96) and Member's Mark 88/12 Ground Beef ($5.97/lb., was $6.17/lb.)
