Walmart captured nearly a quarter of total grocery spending in 2023, keeping its top spot among retailers.
According to data from Numerator, the retail giant captured 23.6% of grocery dollar share in 2023, an increase from 2022 (22.6%) and 2021 (21.9%). Walmart was followed in a distant second by Kroger, which captured 10.1% of spending.
Costco was third with 9.2%. Albertsons (6.4%) and Publix (4.8%) rounded out the top five.
