Walmart is powering up its proprietary, end-to-end Angus beef supply chain program with the launch of a new product line.
The discount giant is introducing McClaren Farms beef in nearly 500 stores across five Southeastern states - Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and South Carolina. McClaren Farms is Walmart’s first official release from its end-to-end Angus beef supply chain program it initiated in 2019. The new innovation aims to deliver quality beef options to Walmart customers while also heightening transparency and sustainability.
While Walmart is stressing that its new beef supply chain will provide full visibility at every step from source to shelf, and be transparent to customers, the retailer has not yet provided details on what systems and/or processes will enable this level of real-time insight.
According to the retailer, the new supply chain model is also designed to support ranchers by creating steady demand and stability in the marketplace. All McClaren Farms beef products are U.S. rancher-raised with no hormones added, including a selection of specialty items.
“The grocery business is always changing, and customers’ expectations are higher than ever,” said David Baskin, VP of meat at Walmart. “Our end-to-end Angus beef supply chain is an industry-leading innovation that allows us to deliver high-quality Angus beef, like McClaren Farms, to our customers.”
“No bigger paradigm change has taken place in the beef industry than what is happening with Walmart bringing truly high-quality, all-natural, no-hormones-added Black Angus beef to its customers,” said Bob McClaren, owner of McLaren Farms. This bold vision gives Walmart a special place at the table by contributing to the most enjoyable and memorable moments in the lives of its customers.”
