Vons streamlines recruiting with mobile app

A regional grocer is helping keep up with the need for staffing during the COVID-19 pandemic using automated video applications.

Vons, a subsidiary of Albertsons operating over 300 supermarket locations in California and Nevada, is attempting to increase recruiting efficiency with the Heroes Jobs video app. The app eliminates the need for hiring managers to screen resumes or conduct phone interviews to assess candidates.

Instead, applicants can find companies hiring in their area and watch short videos the companies have uploaded to learn about working there, then create their own video profile and record their answers to a hiring organization’s questions in a one-minute video.

To speed the process, Heroes Jobs is currently selecting candidates at individual stores’ request and sending them straight to the stores for hiring. The company is also donating its platform for free use during the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘’I offered positions to six people within two weeks,” said James Holm, manager, Vons. “It’s much easier than the system we typically use to filter out candidates. Overall, I had a great experience and was happy with the strong candidates that came through and the easy onboarding.”

Heroes Jobs reaches potential candidates through customized Instagram and Snapchat Stories, TikTok, partnerships with nano-influencers, local community outreach to organizations such as LGBTQ and youth centers, and referrals. According to Heroes Jobs, 30% of users have invited friends to download the app.
