Uber seeks 1 million daily drone deliveries via Zipline partnership

Uber Technologies Inc. is making another investment in drone delivery and setting its sights on an aggressive ultrafast delivery goal.

The parent company of the UberEats on-demand delivery platform is collaborating with Zipline, an American robotics company that designs, manufactures and operates what it says is the world’s largest autonomous delivery system, in an effort to scale drone delivery across the U.S.

The first deployments will begin later in 2026, when Uber Eats expects to offer customers the option to receive their orders in minutes via Zipline’s autonomous drone delivery. Uber will also make a strategic investment in Zipline and the companies aim to jointly reach 1 million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029.

“Zipline has built incredible technology, and Uber connects many millions of people with local merchants every day,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “Together, we’re shaping the future of delivery by creating a faster, more sustainable way for people to get what they need. We look forward to bringing this technology to more communities and making autonomous delivery part of everyday life.”

Uber previously launched a strategic collaboration with drone provider Flytrex Inc. in September 2025. As part of the relationship, Uber is investing with Flytrex to accelerate the development and deployment of drone delivery technology.

Zipline is also in drone delivery partnerships with retailers including Wonder and Chipotle, and operates its own all-electric drone food delivery service in Texas including national retailers such as WalmartLittle Caesars Pizza, and Popeyes.

“Teleportation isn’t science fiction anymore,” said Keller Cliffton, co-founder of Zipline. “It’s becoming part of everyday life. Every great transportation revolution has changed where people live, how businesses operate, and how economies grow. Together with Uber, we’re taking the next step toward building a world where getting what you need is as fast and effortless as sending a text, no matter where you are.”

Uber Eats leverages Uber’s technology and logistics capabilities to partner with 825,000 retailers in more than 11,000 cities globally, with an average delivery time the company says is under 30 minutes.
