Tropical Smoothie Cafe expansion heats up

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is on track for another strong year.

The fast-casual chain plans to open 130 locations this year, with 25 sites having opened for business during the first quarter. It also  announced the signing of 95 new franchise agreements.

The news follows a strong first quarter during which Tropical Smoothie’s same-store-sales rose 29.7% during the quarter, including a 15.8% increase in January and February before the rollover sales impact from the pandemic in March of 2020.   

“We’re thrilled to have hit the ground running in the first quarter with strong results across the board,” said CEO Charles Watson. “The incredible demand for select menu items continues to drive strong same-store-sales, and the record number of franchise agreements provides a very healthy pipeline for our future growth.”

Tropical Smoothie currently operates 940 locations nationwide.
