Amazon kicks off marketing for its Rx delivery service

4/24/2019
Amazon is reportedly moving into direct promotion of its PillPack pharmaceutical delivery service.

According to TJI Research, Amazon recently started sending unsolicited emails to Prime members introducing PillPack, which the e-tail giant purchased for $753 million in September 2018. PillPack sorts user medication by the dose and delivers it every month to Prime members, with no additional service or shipping fees.

It is unclear how many Prime members are receiving promotional emails, or how they are being selected for PillPack promotion. According to TJI Research analysis, Amazon will likely need to significantly increase its PillPack fulfillment facilities to effectively compete with CVS Caremark, although rush delivery should be less important for a monthly service.
