Report: Alexa could change the digital ads game

Amazon’s digital assistant Alexa could be on the verge of creating new advertising opportunities — for both suppliers and the online giant.

Amazon is exploring partnerships that would promote consumer packaged goods (CPGs) on its Echo speakers, reported CNBC.

The move would benefit companies that are not yet taking advantage of voice-shopping platforms. The partnership would also improve merchandise search placement because voice shoppers are more likely to select a top result on a voice assistant than they are on the Web, where they can see more options, the report explained.

Voice advertisements could also benefit Amazon, especially in its targeting initiatives. For example, the online retailer is already piloting a program that enables companies to target users based on past shopping behavior, the report said.
