With an eye on future growth, Etsy has set its sights on solutions available in the cloud.

Etsy has selected the Google Cloud Platform to power its global services, a move that will enable millions of people around the world to more seamlessly buy and sell merchandise on its marketplace. The platform is based on a shared engineering culture, robust infrastructure, and sophistication in mission-critical areas, such as machine learning and big data.

The migration to Google Cloud comes as Etsy sharpens its focus on growing its core marketplace. More so, it will enable the retailer to improve its buyer and seller experiences, and increase the pace of launching new features. The transition to the cloud will also support the execution of its business strategy, according to Etsy.

The transition is expected to be complete within the next two years, according to the retailer.

"Moving to Google Cloud Platform is a transformational change for Etsy,” said Mike Fisher, Etsy's CTO.

“We believe that it positions us well for growth by allowing us to focus on strategic initiatives, enhance site performance, and improve engineering efficiency,” he said. “Google's infrastructure also enables us to better prioritize technologies, like [using] machine learning to personalize the user experience on Etsy.”
