  • Amerlux appoints VP of sales

    Fairfield, N.J. -- Amerlux CEO/president Chuck Campagna has announced that Chris McQuillan has joined the management team as VP of sales. Amerlux is a global leader in innovation, manufacturing and creative lighting solutions for a broad range of commercial, retail, hospitality and institutional environments.  

  • Safeway installing Bettery’s in-store ‘Swap Stations’ for batteries

    Portland, Ore. -- Bettery announced that it has teamed up with Safeway to give consumers a convenient way to adopt reusable household batteries, not only reducing their environmental footprint but also saving them money.

    Bettery Swap Stations – kiosks for purchasing and exchanging rechargeable batteries – are being installed this month at multiple Safeway locations, starting with stores in Portland, Seattle and surrounding communities.

  • Ferrandino hires VP program management

    Farmingdale, N.Y. -- Ferrandino & Son, which provides snow removal, landscaping, exterior maintenance; facility service and maintenance; general contracting and HVAC services, announced it has hired Dave Magill as VP of  program management.
     
    Magill brings over 28 years of facility services experience in both snow removal and landscaping.

  • Early Bird Deadline for Retail Store of the Year

    New York -- Chain Store Age invites retailers, design firms, architects and suppliers to submit entries for its 32nd annual Retail Store of the Year design competition. Deadline for submission is December 23, 2013. There is a reduced entry rate for submissions received by Nov. 29.

    The competition is open to stores and restaurants that opened between November 30, 2012 and December 6, 2013.

  • First 100% LED-lit Walmart opens

    New York -- The first Walmart to be entirely lit with LEDs has opened, in South Euclid, Ohio, just outside of Cleveland. The store will serve as a model for environmentally friendly design for future locations, with 100% LED lighting, electric vehicle charging stations in the parking lot and more.

  • Animated mannequins steal show at Gaultier exhibit in New York

    New York -- Talking mannequins almost steal the show at the exhibition, “The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk,” which opened recently at The Brooklyn Museum in New York City.

  • World’s largest Disney Store to open in Shanghai, China

    Shanghai, China -- The Walt Disney Co. announced plans to open its first store in mainland China, in Shanghai. The 53,000-sq.-ft. Disney Store, expected to open in early 2015, will be the company’s largest store to date.

    The store will be located in Shanghai's financial hub. It will feature an approximate 10,800-sq.-ft. retail space, and a Disney-themed outdoor plaza area that can be used to host outdoor events. The surrounding area has foot traffic of more than 40 million visitors a year.
