Target veteran Amy Benson joins C-suite at Shipt

Amy Benson
Amy Benson has been named chief people and community officer of Shipt.

Shipt has expanded its executive leadership team with a 20-year Target veteran.

The same-day delivery and last-mile company, which Target acquired for $550 million in 2017, named Amy Benson as chief people and community officer. She will lead Shipt's comprehensive human resources function, including diversity, equity and inclusion, supporting Shipt's more than 1,500 employees.

Benson joins Shipt from Target, where she has led teams in human resources for the past 20 years. She started at Target as a human resources intern and has grown within the company.  Most recently, Benson was VP of human resources, whose teams assisted merchandising, strategy, product design and sourcing capabilities in the United States and internationally.

In January 2022, Shipt named Kamau Witherspoon as CEO. He had previously served as senior VP of operations at Target since 2018.

“Amy brings remarkable knowledge and experience to Shipt," said Witherspoon. "Amy's reputation as a strategic leader in developing talent and fostering community brings the expertise we need to continue building upon Shipt's strong company culture."

Benson will also lead Shipt's national and local corporate giving, economic development and community engagement initiatives.

Benson, who is based in Minneapolis, serves on the board of Breakthrough Twin Cities, an organization focused on closing the equity gap in education.

"From supporting careers to investing in the livelihood of our communities, I'm excited to help propel Shipt forward as a top place to work in tech," said Benson. "I was drawn to Shipt's company culture and industry-leading commitment to have the most diverse team in tech by 2025."
