Target, Home Depot and H-E-B open at new center outside of Dallas
The “Antique Capital of Texas” has quickly catapulted itself into a prime player in the future of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro.
Over the past decade, the population of Forney, Texas, more than doubled to a total of 40,000 residents, and this year a 750,000-sq.-ft. open-air center anchored by Target, Home Depot, H-E-B and BJ’s Wholesale has opened to cater to them.
Developed by Street Level Investments, Village at Gateway has this year drawn crowds at the center with top brands that include Five Below, Burlington, Ross Dress for Less and Bath & Body Works.
Other stores set to open at the center in 2026 include Dick’s Sporting Goods, Evo Entertainment, Luna Grill, America’s Best, Livewell and Handel’s Ice Cream.
“Forney is one of the fastest‑growing communities in the Dallas area, with exceptional schools, strong employment and a rapidly expanding population — yet it has long been underserved when it comes to convenient, high‑quality retail and dining," said Brian Murphy, managing principal of the Texas-based StreetLevel Investments.
Designed by GFF with Ridgemont Commercial Construction serving as the general contractor, Village at Gateway will feature an additional 120,000 square feet of space when fully completed.
Village at Gateway will include nine outparcels, future multi-family residential, and is designed to provide connectivity to Texas Health Resources’ 50-acre medical campus under construction immediately west of the project.
"The Village at Gateway is an exciting milestone for Forney, bringing new jobs, shopping, and dining opportunities while continuing to strengthen our local economy,” said Forney’s mayor Jason Roberson. “We're proud to welcome these businesses to our community."
Murphy noted that Street Level polled local consumers to determine the tenant mix for the project.
“We’re excited to deliver a destination that meets the community’s needs and reflects what residents have been asking for — soft goods, entertainment, full‑service restaurants and everyday conveniences all in one thoughtfully designed location,” Murphy said.
