  • California awards Stater Bros. for green business practices

    San Bernardino, Calif. -- West Coast grocery chain Stater Bros. said Wednesday it has been awarded the 2011 Waste Reduction Award – its second consecutive – from the state of California, in recognition for its aggressive focus on recycling.

    The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery Waste Reduction Awards Program honored Stater Bros. for eliminating eliminated 125,780,911 lbs. of waste from landfills in 2011. 
     

  • Crystals at CityCenter honored with sustainable design awards

    Las Vegas -- Crystals Retail & Entertainment District at CityCenter has earned Gold sustainable design awards from the International Council of Shopping Centers. The awards were earned in ICSC's annual U.S. Design and Development Awards competition.

  • Callison acquires Barteluce Architects & Associates

    Seattle -- Global architecture and design firm Callison has acquired New York-based Barteluce Architects & Associates.

    The move expands Callison’s  luxury retail client base and strengthens its delivery capabilities, expanding its New York team to about 75 architects.

  • Holiday Deadline Extension: Retail Store of the Year Design Competition

    New York City – Due to the holiday rush, Chain Store Age has extended the deadline for its 30th annual Retail Store of the Year Design Competition. Deadline submission is Tuesday, January 3, 2012.

    Eligible projects are those completed between November 2010 and December 2011. Chain Store Age invites design firms, retailers architects, and suppliers to submit entries,

    Twenty-one competition categories are featured, ranging from supermarkets and discount/mass merchants to specialty stores and pop-up stores.

  • EPA approves three alternative refrigerants to replace HFCs

    Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has added three hydrocarbons as acceptable alternatives in small commercial refrigerators and freezers through EPA’s Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program.

  • Hodgdon Group completes 12th project for Ashley Furniture HomeStore

    Colton, Calif. -- The Hodgdon Group, a full-service real estate brokerage, development and construction firm, announced that it has completed construction on the conversion of the former Levitz building at Northridge Fashion Center in Northridge, Calif., for the opening of an Ashley Furniture HomeStore.

    Hodgdon-Miank Construction served as the full-service design-build contractor and completed the major renovation of the 34,000-sq.-ft. Ashley store. This is the 12th Ashley HomeStore to open, which has been completed by the Hodgdon Group.
     

  • Davaco acquires Ecoxera

    Dallas — Davaco has acquired Ecoxera, an Austin, Texas-based retail sustainability consulting firm. Justin Doak, who is the founder of Ecoxera, will continue to serve as president.
