  • Report: Ahold to open grocery stores catering to singles

    New York -- Koninklijke Ahold will open its first grocery store tailored to singles, in Germany, according to Bloomberg, which cited a report by Financial Times Deutschland.

    The first store will open in the city of Aachen Sept. 12, with 11 more locations to follow in the state of North-Rhine Westphalia, the report said.

    Teen apparel retailer Delia's has debuted a new prototype at Providence Place Mall, in Providence, R.I. The store has a stylish, youthful vibe that reflects its core customer. The design met objectives to increase floor and wall fixture capacity and reduce overall store size while maintaining brand identification.
     
    Shremshock Architects & Engineers, Westerville, Ohio, provided design, purchasing and construction management for Delia's store redesign in collaboration with Asset Strategies Group, also based in Westerville, Ohio.

  • Study: Expansion plans hit four-year high; Subway, Five Guys, Dollar General to open most stores in next 24 months

    New York -- The store opening plans of retailers hit a four-year high in July, according to the August edition of the National Retailer Demand Monthly report from RBC Capital Markets and Retail Lease Trac.

    Retailers in the RBC database currently plan to open 78,325 stores over the next 24 months, which represents an 11% increase over openings projected at the end of 2011, and a 0.6% increase over June’s level.

  • Reebok Fit Hub makes U.S. debut

    New York -- Reebok has opened its first Reebok Fit Hub in the United States, on Fifth Avenue at 37th Street in Manhattan.

    The 2,500-sq.-ft. store is located on the top of a Reebok CrossFit Box gym, which is on the street level. It sells a wide range of fitness apparel and footwear for men and women. Customers can also get fitness advice from in-store experts.

    Designed by Reebok’s global environmental design division and Ziba, Portland, Ore., Fit Hut has a raw, industrial look, with an exposed ceiling.

  • Bennigan’s and Brixmor Property Group in partnership to add 30 locations

    Dallas -- Bennigan's Franchising Co. and Brixmor Property Group announced a strategic partnership to add Bennigan's restaurants nationwide into Brixmor's portfolio of shopping centers.

    The partnership will include positioning Bennigan's signs at select existing buildings and pad site locations within the Brixmor portfolio of shopping centers, promoting pre-approved restaurant space and franchise opportunities within the company's targeted growth markets.

  • 7-Eleven acquires 74 West Virginia-area locations from its licensee

    Dallas -- 7-Eleven announced today that it has closed a deal to acquire 74 operating convenience stores and two land parcels from Prima Marketing LLC, a 7-Eleven licensee with stores in West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. The bulk of the stores being purchased are in West Virginia.

    Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • Uniqlo to relaunch mall expansion with opening of store in Westfield Garden Plaza

    New York -- Uniqlo will open a location in Westfield Garden State Plaza shopping center, Paramus, N.J., on Sept. 28. The new store will occupy a 43,000-sq.-ft. space with two levels, and feature a separate dedicated entrance and a prominent façade. It will serve as the prototype for Uniqlo’s mall expansion strategy.

    Leading up to the opening, beginning Aug. 27 and continuing through Sept. 27, Uniqlo will operate a temporary store at the mall. The pop-up, designed to resemble a futuristic cube, will be located at the food court.

  • Kings Food Markets expands into Connecticut with acquisition

    Parsippany, N.J. -- Kings Food Markets announced that the company has expanded into Connecticut with the acquisition of a Porricelli's Market location in Old Greenwich. 

    Kings, with 24 stores in New Jersey and New York, recently completed a brand relaunch that included grand reopenings of its Bedminster and Livingston, N.J., stores, with additional reopenings slated to take place throughout 2012 and 2013.
