First Look: Jos. A. Bank unveils Manhattan flagship

3/11/2019
Menswear retailer Jos. A. Bank has reopened its newly renovated flagship store in New York City.

The two-story, 13,800-sq.-ft. location at the corner of Madison Avenue and 46th Street, has undergone an extensive makeover that reflects the 114-year-old brand’s classic heritage while creating an engaging experience that is distinctly modern.

The store boasts 17-foot ceilings, custom furniture and fixtures in rich brown woods, marbled stone tops, brushed copper hardware and antiqued mirrors. Design elements of shields and a map of the city of the retailer’s Baltimore hometown are depicted on wall coverings and rugs to evoke Jos. A. Bank’s heritage. Two dedicated custom shops provide customers with one-on-one service when creating personalized suits, sport coats and dress shirts.

The mezzanine has a lounge area for custom and formalwear fittings that has been designed to comfortably sit larger groups with oversized custom made leather ottomans and larger fitting rooms. A new glass enclosed, state-of-the-art tailor shop provides in-store tailoring needs and allows customers to watch the tailors in action. Two full-feature video walls add enhanced digital visuals throughout the store for an elevated brand experience.

“We wanted our flagship store in New York to represent a unique space as iconic as Madison Avenue,” said Mary Beth Blake, brand president, Jos. A. Bank. “Everything that Jos. A. Bank stands for -- quality craftsmanship, heritage and comfort -- is incorporated into the look and feel of this location.”

Timed with the opening of the flagship store, Jos. A. Bank will also launch its new “Get Ready for Greatness” brand campaign. Brand advertisements are a relatively new space for Jos. A. Bank in its 114 year history. The first branding ad “Modern Man” was created in 2017 — previously its advertising efforts were solely promotional and sales driven. “

“We created ‘Get Ready for Greatness’ to speak to the modern man about style, comfort and the right fit,” said Blake. “This campaign is our opportunity to tell the Jos. A. Bank customer that feeling great in your clothes can lead to being prepared, getting great work done, and even moments of greatness.”

Founded in 1905, Jos. A. Bank Clothiers operates nearly 500 stores in 44 states and the District of Columbia.
