SpartanNash names new finance VP

Grocery retailer/distributor SpartanNash is adding a finance executive with experience in both the consumer footwear and mechanical system industries.

SpartanNash is placing Greg Crane in the role of VP, finance – food distribution. Crane will serve as finance business partner to Bennett Morgan, senior VP and chief merchandising officer, and support the food distribution leadership team.

Crane’s role, effective June 6, 2022, includes leadership over budgeting, forecasting, monthly results analysis and risk and opportunity assessment activities for the SpartanNash food distribution business. In addition, he will provide thought leadership and financial guidance on both broad strategic initiatives and day-to-day opportunities, with goals of improving efficiency and reducing company operating expenses.

Crane, a registered CPA, brings more than 15 years of financial and operational experience with a background in financial management, strategic and financial planning, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and performance optimization. Most recently, he served as the CFO for GHSP Inc., a global supplier of mechanical and electromechanical systems to the automotive, transportation, and appliance industries. Before that, he spent nearly six years at consumer footwear company Wolverine World Wide in a variety of financial and leadership positions.

Crane holds an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and an undergraduate degree in finance and accounting from Miami University. He lives in Grand Rapids, Mich. with his family.

The core businesses of SpartanNash include distributing grocery products to independent and chain retailers, its corporate-owned retail stores, and U.S. military commissaries and exchanges. The company also operates a fresh produce distribution network and the Our Family brand. SpartanNash serves customer locations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, Europe, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Djibouti. The company owns 145 supermarkets—primarily under the banners of Family Fare, Martin's Super Markets, D&W Fresh Market, VG's Grocery, and Dan's Supermarket.
