Chino Hills tenants now have access to discounted, clean energy

Tenants at The Shoppes at Chino Hills outside of Anaheim, Calif., are now saving money on their energy bills with the installation of roof solar panels.

Installed by King Energy, a key provider of multi-tenant commercial solar energy, retail tenants at the 375,000-sq.-ft. center now have access to close to two million kilowatt hours of emissions-free energy.

"This is a five-point interconnection system with five different solar arrays tied into the local power grid, so there is a lot of complexity here," said Rob Porter, King Energy’s chief commercial officer. "Tenants here are saving money and using clean energy. The property owner has a new rent-paying tenant in King Energy. And the community benefits from distributed solar generated right here at the city center."

Among the 70 Tenants at The Shoppes at Chino Hills are Trader Joe’s, Sephora, Barnes & Noble, Forever 21, and Victoria’s Secret. More than 325,000 people live within five miles of the center and have average household incomes of $106,000.

“Tenants across the property now have access to discounted clean energy generated right here on site,” said the center’s GM Darryll Goodman. “That supports the businesses, invests in the long-term future of the property, and reflects the kind of thoughtful growth this community values."

In a press release, King Energy stated that its mission is to deliver financial and environmental value to commercial properties and the communities that surround them by reducing strain on the grid and creating long-term value for property owners and tenants alike.

“The Shoppes at Chino Hills is essentially our city center,” said Chino Hills city council member Peter Rogers. “When our retail partners take the lead on initiatives like this, they make our community stronger and more attractive to residents and visitors alike.”
