Skims, the $4 billion shapewear and apparel brand co-founded by reality TV superstar and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian, is making its long-awaited push into physical retail.

The brand has opened its first permanent store, in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C.  It will be followed by four additional locations: Aventura, Fla. (opening later this month); Austin (opening in July); Houston (opening in August); and Atlanta (opening in September), reported WWD. Skims has previously opened several pop-up stores.

The Skim stores, which have designed in partnership with Willo Perron of Perron-Roettinger, feature an interior that is meant as an extension of the the brand’s signature rounded edges, according to the report.

Robert Norton, chief commercial officer of Skims, told WWD that after the opening of the first group of stores, which range range in size from 3,200 sq. ft. to 6,900 sq. ft., the brand will look at the Northeast corridor, through the Midwest, the West Coast and other Southern cities.

Launched in 2019 by Kardashian and business partner Jens Grede who serves as CEO, Skims raised $270 million (for a total of $670 million across all its funding rounds) in a Series C funding round in July 2023 that valued it at $4 billion. The company said it planned to use the fresh capital for product innovation, category expansion and physical retail.

Best known for its nude-colored shapewear for women, Skims has since expanded its offerings to include underwear, loungewear and other clothing. In October, the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Skims announced a multiyear partnership, making the brand the official underwear partner of the NBA, the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and USA Basketball.

“Skims has quickly become one of our most culturally-influential brands," said NBA commissioner Adam Silver. "We look forward to bringing NBA fans and Skims users unique experiences, new offerings and premium products through our partnership."

Skims sells directly through its website as well as through select partnerships with retailers including Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Selfridges, SSENSE, Net-a-Porter, Lane Crawford, KaDeWe, Holt Renfrew and David Jones.
