Report: Amazon selects second high-tech grocery store site

Amazon is reportedly bringing its new Amazon Fresh grocery format to Whittier, Calif.

According to the Whittier Daily News, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed via email that a shuttered Orchard Supply Hardware store in the Friendly Hills Marketplace will serve as the latest Amazon Fresh site. Amazon is opening the store in an area with a number of nearby established brick-and-mortar grocery competitors, including Aldi’s, Ralph’s, Trader Joe’s, and Target.

In August, Amazon debuted its first Amazon Fresh store in Woodland Hills, Calif.The e-tail giant designed the format from the ground up to offer a seamless shopping experience with extra perks for members of the Amazon Prime paid loyalty program. Features of the high-tech format include the smart Amazon Dash Cart self-service shopping cart, integrations with Alexa voice technology, and direct same-day delivery and pickup services.

Amazon previously announced it plans to open other Amazon Fresh store locations in North Hollywood, Calif., and in Oak Lawn and Schaumburg, Ill.
