REI store expansion includes new territory out West

REI Co-op keeps expanding.

The outdoor gear and apparel retailer will open its first location in the state of Wyoming, at Powderhorn Mall in Jackson, in summer 2021. The 15,000-sq.-ft. store will have a heavy focus on service, with a full-service bike and ski and snowboard shop for maintenance and repairs.

REI Jackson will also offer workshops and classes to connect people to outdoor experiences in the region. While the Jackson store will be the retailer’s first physical store in the state, REI’s adventure travel company has offered guided multi-day hiking, kayaking and family trips in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks for more than a decade ( REI’s trips and local experiences are currently limited due to the pandemic.)

On November 13, REI will open a store at the Uptown Boca lifestyle center in Boca Raton, Fla. The 23,000-sq.-ft. store will join REI’s existing three Florida stores including Jacksonville, Winter Park and its newly opened Gainesville location. In addition, REI plans to open a store in Tampa in 2021.

The new store’s features will include a bike shop with zero-contact services, buy-online-pickup-in-store and virtual outfitting appointments that allow customers to receive personalized, one-on-one service for things like hiking boot and running shoe fittings, cycling outfitting, and camping and backpacking outfitting from home. REI also offers virtual events to connect people to the outdoors.

Similar to all REI stores, the Boca Raton location will be open for in-store shopping with health and safety protocols designed to maintain physical distance between customers and employees.
