  • Nebraska Furniture Mart opens nation’s largest home furnishings store

    New York -- While most retailers are shrinking their footprints, Nebraska Furniture Mart (NFM) is doing just the opposite, opening the nation’s largest home furnishings store. Located in the new 433-acre Grandscape mixed-use development in The Colony, Texas, the two-level store has a whopping 560,000 sq, ft. of selling space (equivalent to about nine football fields). Including its on-site warehouse, the space totals more than 1.8 million sq. ft.

  • Industry veteran joins Brixmor Property Group

    New York - Ryan Guheen has joined Brixmor Property Group as senior VP, redevelopment & strategic leasing. Guheen is based in New York and will play a major role in the company’s Raising the Bar initiative.

    Raising the Bar involves upgrading the merchandise mix at its shopping centers with best-in-class anchors to drive higher sales, traffic and small shop leasing, while elevating center appeal to improve rent levels and net operating income growth.

  • Lowe’s Canada to pick up 13 Target leases, distribution center

    Toronto - Lowe's Canada has reached an agreement to acquire the leases of 13 former Target Canada locations and to purchase Target's distribution center in Milton, Ontario, for a total purchase price of about $125 million. This acquisition came as part of a real estate auction following Target's decision to cease operations in Canada.

  • Fuddruckers enters Maine

    Houston – Fuddruckers is going from “Howdy” to “Ayuh.” The casual-dining chain is opening its first location in Maine on May 11 through a partnership with franchisee B&B Burgers Inc. The 3,000-sq.-ft. restaurant in Ellsworth, Maine anchors a new Tradewinds convenience store complex.

  • JLL acquires retail brokerage firm Wilson Retail Group

    Chicago -- JLL is getting a big boost to its retail business by acquiring Wilson Retail Group, an independent retail brokerage and capital markets firm in Southern California.

    The transaction will enable JLL, the nation’s largest third-party retail property manager, to provide a broader range of brokerage and investment sales services to retailers and investors in a core urban gateway. The transaction closed for an undisclosed sum.

  • Macy’s new Macy’s Backstage off-price format to open four pilot stores in fall

    Cincinnati -- Macy’s will debut its off-price business in fall 2014, opening four stores in metro New York City. The new business, one of the department store giant’s major growth initiatives, will be called Macy’s Backstage.

  • Walmart Canada to buy 13 former Target locations, one DC

    Mississauga, Ontario - Walmart Canada has reached agreements to acquire one distribution center, 12 store leases and one owned property formerly held by Target Canada, for an aggregate of approximately $165 million Canadian ($136.3 million).
