One of retail's fastest-growing categories—food halls—is getting a new player.
Munchies Food Hall will open its first-ever location, at American Dream, the long-delayed mega retail and entertainment destination set to open in the Meadowlands, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in spring 2019. The 38,000-sq.-ft. food complex is being developed by Munchies, the food website and digital video channel from Vice Media.
Munchies Food Hall, which will feature 18 vendors, will serve as a platform for creative and diverse culinary talent—selected with the brand’s youth-driven perspective. It will include spaces for filming content for the Munchies website, demos from visiting chefs, and other events .
“We're always looking for opportunities to expand the Munchies brand beyond digital media and to provide fun, offline experiences for our fans to taste, interact and learn, as well as tell our stories to new audiences,” said John Martin, publisher of Munchies, which is owned by Vice Media. “Food halls have always intrigued us, and we couldn't ask for more than partnering with a world-class operator like Triple Five. The American Dream property is like nothing we've ever seen before.”
American Dream is being developed by Triple Five Group of Companies, owners of the two largest shopping and entertainment centers in North America – Mall of America and West Edmonton Mall.
The approximate 3 million-sq.-.ft. center will combine retail, dining, entertainment and attractions. It will feature more than 450 retail, food and specialty shops, along with such attractions as North America's largest fully enclosed indoor DreamWorks Water Park and Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park; a 160-story Big Snow Indoor Ski & Snow Park; Kidzania; a live Performing Arts Theater; 285-foot tall Observation Wheel; luxury movie theaters; Sea Life Aquarium; Lego Discovery Center; NHL-size Ice Rink; and two 18-hole miniature golf attractions.
