Local Restaurateur to anchor redeveloped Atherton Mill

10/5/2009

Charlotte, N.C. John Duncan, who owns restaurant concepts Bonterra and Las Ramblas and co-founded Mac’s Speed Shop, said Monday he will open Icehouse at South End, in Charlotte, N.C., in early 2010.

The restaurant will occupy 5,600 sq. ft.

Icehouse at South End is part of the redevelopment and remerchandising ongoing at Atherton Mill. Representatives from Edens & Avant, owner of the property, have worked with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission to design changes that are in keeping with the historic nature of Atherton Mill. For the redevelopment project, the company said it is focused on features that will engage and connect people from the neighborhood. More dining options, new retail and major improvements to the outdoor space to enable events are some of the changes nearby residents can expect in the future.

“South End has an eclectic mix of restaurants, retail and entertainment, and Atherton Mill is the signature location within the area,” said Duncan. “I have always been drawn to the character of this location and look forward to being a vital part of the neighborhood when we open.”
