Lakeshore opens a pop-up store at Mall of America

It built a national chain of 60 stores selling educational toys for kids, but it never had one in the mall that is arguably the nation’s biggest kid magnet. Now it does, if only for a short time.

Lakeshore has opened a 200-sq.-ft. pop-up in Minnesota’s Mall of America that features hands-on play stations meant to inspire kids’ design and building skills. The “Gifts for Growing Minds” shop will be open from Labor Day until the end of the year and is timed with the mailing of a catalog of the same name.

Using stores, catalogs, and e-commerce, the 60-year-old business employs ex-teachers to design products for children from infants to age 11. Items for both home and classroom use are classified by age group and include categories such as Dramatic Play, Blocks & Manipulatives, Language, and Sensor Exploration.

"It's beyond thrilling to launch our first pop-up concept at one of the country's leading retail and entertainment destinations," said Lakeshore CEO Bo Kaplan.
