One of the premier malls in Dallas has a new management company, and it has chosen to close its doors and let employees spend time with their families on Thanksgiving Day.
Trademark Properties took over management of Galleria Dallas from Simon Property Group, which has operated the mall for owner UBS AM since 2009.
"The bulk of our retailers feel that their core shoppers would prefer to spend Thanksgiving with family and prefer to do their holiday shopping beginning on Black Friday," the mall’s general manager Angie Freed told the
Dallas Morning News.
Opening on Thanksgiving has always been a mixed blessing. Employees tend to resent it, and consumers have applauded retail chains such as Nordstrom and Costco who have continued to honor the holiday by closing.
With attached office and hotel towers, the property at I-635 and Dallas North Tollway was one of the earliest projects to take on the density issue and build its own traffic. But traffic been down at the center anchored by Belk, Macy’s, and Nordstrom.
"Our vision for this next chapter in the Galleria Dallas story is to position it as a leader in the resurgence of the neighborhood and as a vibrant mixed-use district," Matt Lynch, head of real estate and private markets at UBS AM, told the newspaper.
