Cabela's is going where its core shoppers are

Cabela’s is looking to increase sales this holiday by opening seasonal stores in some military installations.

The retailer isset to open its first location in El Paso, Texas, and first store on military installation, on Nov. 23. The store will be located atFreedom Crossing at Fort Bliss, the first open-air shopping center on a military installation.

“Cabela’s has always proudly supported the military, and we are now excited to bring the Cabela’s store experience first-hand to these select military installations this holiday season”, said Scott Williams, Cabela’s Chief Commercial Officer.

The company says the Freedom Crossing Cabela’s location will offer a variety of seasonal soft goods, shoes, hunting gear, outdoor equipment and gifts.

In addition to Freedom Crossing at Fort Bliss, Cabela’s will open seasonal locations this year with The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) at Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

last month CNBC reported that rival outdoors retailer Bass Pro Shops is exploring an offer for Cabela's.
