Popeyes in deal to open ‘hundreds’ of sites in Mexico

Popeyes is expanding south of the border.

The quick-serve chain has entered into an agreement with JK Capital to bring hundreds of Popeyes restaurants to Mexico over the coming years, with the first of the new restaurants opening in Mexico City later this year.  Currently, the brand, which has more than 3,400 stores around the globe, operates one location in Mexico, in the city of Guadalajara.

"This is a historic moment for the Popeyes brand," commented Sami Siddiqui, president of Popeyes, Americas. "Our successful international expansions into Spain, Switzerland, China, Brazil, and the Philippines over the past few years reinforced the global appeal of Popeyes and we are confident that our guests in Mexico will similarly love that chicken from Popeyes."

Popeyes is owned by Restaurant Brands International Inc., which also owns Tim Hortons and Burger King. The company operates more than 27,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries and U.S. territories.
