New tenants and property upgrades are planned for Somerset Square.
Poag Shopping Centers has acquired The Shops at Somerset Square in Glastonbury, Conn., and will direct its redevelopment. JLL will operate and handle leasing the 113,422-sq.-foot lifestyle center.
In its previous history, it would have been the Memphis-based Poag that ran the center. But an arrangement Poag made just two months ago with the worldwide retail services company now has it focusing on leasing and operations. The new owner’s CEO, Josh Poag, will concentrate on upgrading the popular center and increasing its traffic with new attractions.
“This asset is the first example of JLL and Poag’s partnership in action, where each partner can bring their strengths to the table to maximize the potential of a retail property,” Poag said. “This center has long been a rock in the Glastonbury community, and we are happy to add it to our portfolio and deploy redevelopment efforts that will bring further value to the property in new and exciting ways.”
Somerset Square’s tenant lineup includes J. Jll, Bluemercury, Greenwich Medspa, Pure Barre, Piper Jaffray, and White House Black Market. On the restaurant list are B. Good, Max Fish, Playa Bowls, and Chipotle.
“We intend to re-energize The Shops at Somerset Square with a focus on experiential tenants such as restaurants, fitness, and luxury services,” said JLL executive VP of retail leasing Paul Chase. “We’ll also place an emphasis on community-driven marketing to drive traffic.”
Poag’s portfolio of lifestyle centers includes La Centerra at Cinco Ranch in Katy, Texas, the Roosevelt Collection of Shops in Chicago, and The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley in California.
