Report: Starbucks may change tattoo policy

9/11/2014

Seattle – Starbucks Corp. is reportedly considering changing its policy that forbids visible tattoos on baristas. According to CNNMoney, more than 21,000 employees have signed an online petition asking Starbucks to allow baristas in its stores to display visible, non-offensive tattoos.

Currently, Starbucks requires baristas to not have any visible tattoos, or to cover up any tattoos that might otherwise be visible to customers. A petition posted to Coworker.org in August has received more than 21,000 signatures. Starbucks said it is evaluating workplace policies, including tattoo policy, and also in a post on a Facebook page for employees on Sept. 8 asked how it should strike the right balance between self-expression and professionalism.
