Macy's makes a surprise move
A strong start to the holiday season has caused Macy's to make an unexpected change in its holiday hiring plans.
The department store giant on Friday said it plans to hire an additional 7,000 seasonal employees nationwide at its Macy’s stores for the holiday season. The retailer had previously announced it would hire 80,000 seasonal workers, down from 83,000 a year ago.
“Macy’s has had a great start to this holiday season with high customer volume across our business," said John Harper, Macy's chief stores officer. "Due to the strong traffic in our stores, we are adding associates in our stores across the country to ensure that customers continue to receive the high level of service they have come to expect from us."
The new hires will work on the sales floor and also fulfill online, pickup-in-store orders and do other operational jobs.
