  • Microsoft to cut 18,000 jobs; focus on smartphone work capabilities

    Redmond, Wash. - Microsoft Corp. is enacting a restructuring plan to simplify its organization and align the recently acquired Nokia mobile devices and services business with the company’s overall strategy. These steps will result in the elimination of up to 18,000 positions in the next year.

  • J.C. Penney showcases unique mannequins in New York City store windows

    New York -- J.C. Penney has teamed up with NBC’s “Today Show” to display five mannequins created in the image of real Americans in the windows of its store in Manhattan. The mannequins, which include a model of woman in a wheelchair and a male double-leg amputee, were made by Fusion Specialties, Broomfield, Colorado.

  • Savings.com launches Amazon price comparison tool

    Santa Monica, Calif. – Savings website Savings.com has launched PriceJUmp, an online tool that instantly compares Amazon product prices to prices around the Web. Users copy the URL of the product page they are viewing on Amazon and paste it into the PriceJump website search box.

  • Retail veteran joins Park City Group business development team

    Salt Lake City - Frederic Van Roie has joined the business development team of Big Data management software provider Park City Group.

    Van Roie is a 25-year veteran of the retail, CPG and foodservice industries with expertise in marketing and merchandising strategies at several premier retailers, including Costco, BJ’s, Home Depot, Whole Foods, D’Agostino’s, Walmart and Safeway.

     

  • Apple and IBM partner for business software

    New York -- IBM, and Apple have entered into a comprehensive partnership to spread advanced mobile and data analysis technology in the corporate world. The deal brings together two historic competitors.

    The two companies are jointly working on, and will release, more than 100 mobile applications tailored to work with IBM’s data analytics and cloud services developed exclusively for Apple’s iOS operating system and for use on iPhones and iPads.

  • Living Social names eBay exec as next CEO

    New York -- The daily-deals website LivingSocial on Tuesday named Gautam Thakar, a longtime eBay executive, as its incoming president and CEO. Thakar heads the e-commerce giant's Shopping.com price comparison site.

    He will replace co-founder and outgoing CEO Tim O’Shaughnessy by mid-August.

     

  • Ralph Lauren exec joins Simon as CEO of premium outlets

    Indianapolis – Simon has named retail and real estate executive Stephen Yalof as CEO of premium outlets and senior executive VP of Simon. Yalof has served as senior VP of real estate for Ralph Lauren Corp. since 2002.
     
    His 15 years of experience within the retail industry also includes his role as senior director of real estate for Gap. Yalof began his career in real estate at New Plan Realty Trust, and became VP of leasing for their factory outlet business. 

     

  • Dollar Tree names Tractor Supply exec as investor relations VP

    Chesapeake, Va. - Randy Guiler has joined Dollar Tree Inc. as VP, investor relations. Guiler, 49, is joining Dollar Tree after nearly 15 years with Tractor Supply Company, including leading Tractor Supply’s investor relations efforts for the past 10 years.

    Prior to his role as VP, investor relations & corporate communications, Guiler also had responsibility for Tractor Supply’s treasury and risk management functions. Guiler will succeed Timothy Reid, 61, who is retiring.
