Back Market has entered brick-and-mortar as the market for resale continue to expand across categories.

The online retailer of verified refurbished electronics is making its retail debut with a limited-time pilot store in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. The store invites shoppers to see, touch and test refurbished devices, and also offers repair services, workshops and events designed to make sustainability practical rewarding and easy to act on.

“The Back Market SoHo store is about showing what’s possible,” said Thibaud Hug de Larauze, co-founder and CEO of Back Market. “When people experience refurbished tech in person, they see the quality, the savings, and the potential to live smarter. We believe this pilot can spark real trust and momentum for a more sustainable way forward.”

Back Market said its goal for the pilot is to learn how people shop IRL, what questions they ask and what excites them about refurbished tech. The insights gained will guide the company in exploring a long term retail strategy that extends beyond New York City, and how experiences, services and hands-on support can accelerate adoption of refurbished tech across the United States.

Founded in Paris in 2014, Back Market said it has grown by double digits year over year. To date, more than 30 million refurbished devices have been sold on Back Market across 17 markets, avoiding approximately 2 billion Kg of carbon emissions.

The Back Market store is designed to offer a hands-on experience. It includes a “new vs. refurbished” interactive that challenges visitors to spot the difference between the two and provides an opportunity to interact directly with refurbished tech.

Other features include live pricing and transparency, with dynamic price tags and grading that explains exactly why devices cost what they do. The available services include device diagnostics, screen repairs, device cleanings and trade-in options that “highlight the ongoing value of what people already own,” the company said.

Located at 449 Broadway, Back Market will be open through Dec. 21, 2025. The store was created in partnership with New York-based creative agency Mythology.
