Nordstrom Rack expanding in California — here’s where

Nordstrom continues to expand the footprint of its outlet division.

The department store retailer plans to open a Nordstrom Rack in Elk Grove, Calif., in spring 2024. The 25,000-sq.-ft. store will be located at The Ridge Elk Grove shopping center, which is owned by Pappas Investments and managed by its affiliate Inverness Management.

Earlier this year, Nordstrom announced plans to open a Nordstrom Rack at Promenade at Sacramento Gateway, Natomas, Calif. The store is due to open in fall 2023. The center is owned by Fairbourne Properties, LLC and managed by Fairbourne Properties, LLC and CBRE.

In addition, Nordstrom Rack will open at Pinole Vista Crossing, Pinole, Calif., in fall 2023.

With the opening of the Elk Grove  location, Nordstrom will operate 64 Nordstrom Rack stores, 23 Nordstrom stores, five Nordstrom Locals and one asos | Nordstrom in California.

In March, Nordstrom announced plans to expand its outlet banner, with  20 new stores scheduled to open by the end of the current  year.

“Rack stores continued to be our largest source of new-customer acquisition, accounting for more than 40% of newly acquired customers in 2022,”  Eric Nordstrom told analysts on the company’s earnings call in March. 

 Also in March, Nordstrom announced plans to wind down its operations in Canada, including its stores and e-commerce platform.  The in-store wind-down is expected to be completed by late June 2023. Nordstrom Canada represents less than 3% of total company sales. The retailer said it expects to see a $400 million decline in total net sales as a result of leaving Canada.

Nordstrom operates 350 Nordstrom, Nordstrom Local and Nordstrom Rack locations in addition to its e-commerce websites.
