Nike Inc. has appointed a retail veteran to the role of chief commercial officer – more than a year after eliminating the position.

The global footwear and apparel giant has named Jane Ewing to the role, effective Sept. 7. As chief commercial officer, Ewing will lead Nike’s global marketplace organization, including sales and Nike Direct, its direct-to-consumer business.

Ewing joins Nike after almost 14 years at Walmart, where she most recently served as interim CEO for Sam’s Club China. She held senior leadership roles spanning merchandising, digital acceleration and international operations at the retail giant.

Prior to joining Walmart, Ewing led one of the largest global divisions for Diageo PLC, a global leader in premium beverages.

At the beginning of 2025, Nike eliminated the roles of chief commercial officer and chief technology officer as part of its “Win Now” turnaround plan.

“Jane’s experience, leadership and global perspective will help us continue this work and accelerate growth across Nike Direct and wholesale,” said Elliott Hill, president and CEO of Nike. “Her role is vital to creating even stronger connections between brand, product and marketplace while serving athletes* and consumers around the world.”

VP of global sales Erica Bullard, VP of Nike Direct Shannon Glass and VP of geo & marketplace analytics Gail Cornelius will all report to Ewing. Hill said that the team’s work will further Nike’s influence globally.

“Together, these leaders will continue advancing our efforts to create a more connected and integrated marketplace, strengthen partner relationships, elevate consumer experiences across digital and physical retail, and unlock growth opportunities around the world,” he said. “We’ve made progress over the last year, and there’s more opportunity ahead of us.”

Ewing’s addition to Nike’s C-suite is just the latest leadership move for the company. Earlier this summer, Nike named David M. Denton as its chief financial officer, joining the brand after serving in the same position at Pfizer.
