  • Report: E-tailers beat omnichannel peers in customer satisfaction

    Chicago — Pure-play e-tailers are doing a better job in satisfying their customers overall than omnichannel retailers, but omnichannel retailers have an edge in select functional areas like checkout. According to results of the mid-year Customer Feedback Index (CFI) from OpinionLab, e-tailers had an average CFI score of 481, compared with a CFI average of 457 for omnichannel retailers.

    No one would dispute that Lakeland, Fla.-based supermarket is a wonderful operator, but a piece in the August 12 issue of Forbes takes things a little too far and characterizes the regional operator of 1,073 stores as, “the Wal-Mart Slayer.”
     

  • Walmart opens e-commerce checkbook, again

    Whatever a cloud-based Web site acceleration company is, Walmart acquired one this week called Torbit.

    The retailer’s Silicon Valley innovation engine known as @Walmart Labs described Torbit as “a front-end optimization innovator that has been focused on making the web a faster and better place.”

    Torbit is known for developing measurement, analytics and performance improvement tools to help companies identify and enhance their overall site performance.

    ATLANTA — PepsiCo and Feed the Children have teamed up with Compassion Atlanta and Walmart to distribute two tractor trailers full of food and essentials to 800 Atlanta-area children and families in need.

  • Merchant Warehouse seeks to expand footprint with new SVP

    BOSTON, Mass. — Merchant Warehouse, a leading innovator of payment technologies and merchant account services, has appointed Russell Harty as SVP of the company's key accounts and partner channel.

    Harty, who boasts more than 20 years in the payments industry, will be charged with evaluating and adding new partners and expanding the footprint of Merchant Warehouse solutions, including the Genius Customer Engagement Platform, with partners, value-added resellers and key accounts.

  • Starbucks serves tasty Q3 results as profit rises 25%

    Seattle — Starbucks Corp. reported strong results for third quarter fiscal 2013, with net revenues, same-store sales and operating income all increasing substantially from the same quarter a year earlier.

    Net earnings grew 25%, from $333.1 million to $417.8 million.

    Net revenues totaled about $3.7 billion, up 13% from $3.3 billion. Same-store sales increased 8% globally, driven by 9% growth in U.S. stores.

    Known for its high fashion window displays, Neiman Marcus — which is headquartered in Dallas — has dedicated four of its windows to the brand's milestone and to its founder, Mary Kay Ash.
