Walmart launches Earth Day contest for schools

BENTONVILLE, Ark. In celebration of Earth Day, Walmart is challenging schools accross the country to show how they are being more green through its "Earth Day, Every Day" School Challenge.

Entrants will be asked to submit a 200-word description on behalf of the nominated school at www.earthdayeverydaychallenge.com .The essay should showcase efforts the school has made that contribute to making the world a greener place.

The top 20 finalists will be chosen by independent judges and will receive a $500 Walmart gift card to assist in the school's continuation of earth-friendly activities. Schools will then be invited to submit a video showcasing earth-friendly practices for the chance to compete to win a $20,000 grant to further green initiatives. All Americans, including the 200 million customers who shop at Walmart, will have the chance to vote for the school doing the most to create a greener, healthier planet from June 8 through June 19.
