Women are participating in skateboarding (pictured) and dart throwing more frequently, according to the National Sporting Goods Association’s annual sports participation study annual sports participation study.
Female skateboarders represented 26.6% of total skateboarders in 2007, compared to 19.5% just five years earlier. Female participation in dart throwing grew at a slightly slower rate, increasing to 41.2% of total participants last year from 37.1% five years ago.
Despite efforts to increase female participation in sports, the NSGA said that 23 of the 38 sports activities measured were roughly in line with levels from five years earlier.
