Stein Mart suffers decrease in September sales

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Stein Mart reported September sales, period ended Oct. 3.

Stein Mart sales for the five-week period ended Oct. 3, were $101.9 million, a 9% decrease over the $112 million achieved during the five-week period ended Oct. 4 the year prior. Consolidated comparable-store sales decreased 5.4% compared with last year for the five-week period ended Oct. 3.

During September, ladies' dresses, ladies' casual sportswear and men's sportswear produced positive comparisons, while the most difficult businesses were ladies' career sportswear and gifts. Stores in the West, from Texas through California, performed better than the company trend, while stores in the Southeast continued to under perform.
