Sports Authority enters Puerto Rico
Sports Authority is trying out a new store format in its first-ever store in Puerto Rico. The 35,000-sq.-ft. location in Ponce opened its doors Saturday, Oct. 19.
The company describes the new format as an intuitive one that allows consumers to easily find exactly what they need. Featuring specialty sport shops and a spacious layout, the store has been designed specifically to enhance the shopping experience.
“We are excited to celebrate the grand opening of our first Puerto Rico location,” said Michael E. Foss, CEO of Sports Authority. “We admire Puerto Rico’s sporting legacy and are excited to introduce the brand to a new market. We look forward to providing great value and outstanding service to the families, athletes and fans in the Ponce community.”
Customers are also invited to join the League, Sports Authority’s loyalty program, which gives members a point for every dollar spent. Within a quarterly period, members who earn 100 points or more will receive 5% back on all in-store merchandise.
Sports Authority has hired more than 70 employees for the Ponce store. The company plans to expand its hiring efforts next year in San Juan to support the opening of two additional stores.
Sports Authority has more than 475 locations across 43 states.
